Atypiqual - Atomically Precise Nanoribbons Quantum PlatformAtypiqual - Atomically Precise Nanoribbons Quantum Platform
A bottom-up approach to hardwirecraft quantum states into atomically precise carbon nanostructures
SCROLL DOWN
About

A ground-breaking technology based on a single highly-tailorable carbon nanomaterial

ATYPIQUAL aims to create a room temperature quantum technology platform using Atomically Precise graphene nanoRibbons (APRs) and demonstrate its feasibility through technologically relevant devices.

ATYPIQUAL proposes a high-risk bottom-up approach, "hard-wiring" complex quantum states into APRs, which have unique properties like topological quantum phases and spin polarization. Achieving atomic precision control requires recent advances in bottom-up synthesis. By utilizing atomically precise bottom-up on-surface synthesis, ATYPIQUAL aims to develop advanced APRs with tailored functionalities, relying on a graphene nanoribbon backbone.

By showcasing feasibility examples and developing material processing and device fabrication steps, ATYPIQUAL will pave the way for a new quantum technology platform with atomically tunable multifunctional devices for next-gen electronics, photonics, and spintronics.

CNRS

The CNRS is a governmental fundamental research organization (the largest) under the administrative authority of France’s ministry of research. CNRS carries out research in all scientific fields to improve knowledge, ensure economic and technological development and solve complex societal needs. CNRS is organized in more than 1000 laboratories, either on their own or in partnership with universities, other research organizations or industry. CNRS has more than 300 cooperation programs with 40 countries. CNRS annual budget (several billion) comes mainly from French government and own resources representing 1/4 of France public spending on civilian research. The CNRS is strong of 18 Nobel laureates and 11 Fields Medals. The present project will be managed by the Ile de France Sud Regional Office of CNRS (DR4) which is located on Paris Saclay Campus.

Thales

THALES is a world leader group for electronics and a key player in numerous markets such as aerospace, space, ground transportation, digital identity and security, physical and cyber security and defense. Research and development (R&D) is at the core of the new Group, with its 3,000 researchers and 28,000 engineers dedicated to R&D. Thales has been developing state-of-the-art technologies to meet the most demanding requirements of customers around the world for decades. Today the Group has become a giant laboratory inventing the world of tomorrow, with a portfolio of 20,500 patents, of which more than 400 new ones were registered in 2018. THALES participates to the k-NET project with Thales Research & Technology France (TRT-fr), the main multidisciplinary research unit of THALES, located on the Campus of Polytechnique in Palaiseau.

Université Paris Saclay

Université Paris-Saclay is a French university created on November 6, 2019 as an experimental public scientific, cultural and professional establishment.

It is the successor to the Université Paris-Sud, and includes the École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay, CentraleSupélec, the Institut d'Optique and AgroParisTech as component institutions; and the Institut des hautes études scientifiques (IHES) as a research organization1. The Universities of Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and Évry-Val-d'Essonne are also associate members of the establishment, and are expected to become "integrated universities" by 2025.

The Orsay Faculty of Science is a university component of Université Paris-Saclay. In the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Shanghai rankings, it has enabled the Université Paris-Saclay to rank 1st worldwide in mathematics and 9th worldwide (1st in Europe) in physics.
